2. 영어문장 소리 내서 3번 읽기

뜻을 모르더라도 읽을 수 있다면 일단 3번 읽어보세요. 절대 중간에 끊지 말고 처음부터 끝까지 읽어보세요.

 

Genesis 1:9-13

9 And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so. 10 God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth." And it was so. 12 The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 

 

3. 어휘 암기하기

어휘를 암기하는 것은 어휘를 저축하는 것과 같습니다. 암기한 어휘를 문장에 적용시키면 오래도록 기억할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 저축한 어휘는 어느 순간 폭발적으로 효과를 나타냅니다. 

• gather 모으다, 수집하다
• together 함께, 같이
• place 장소
• dry 마른
• land 땅
• appear 나타나다
• Earth 지구, 땅
• Seas 바다
• sprout 싹트다, 싹을 트게 하다
• vegetation 야채, 채소
• plant 식물
• yield (농작물을) 산출하다, 내다
• seed 씨앗
• fruit tree 과일나무
• bear (꽃, 열매를) 맺다
• according to ~에 따라
• kind 종류
• bring forth 낳다, ~을 산출하다

4. 직독직해 

영어문장 끊어 읽기를 연습합니다. 영어문장과 끊어서 해석한 우리말을 읽으면서 직독직해를 연습하세요.

① And God said, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so.

• And God said 그리고 하나님이 말씀하셨다
• Let the waters under the heavens be gathered 하늘 아래에 있는 물은 모이도록 해라
• together into one place 한 곳에 함께
• and let the dry land appear 그리고 마른땅이 나타나라
• And it was so 그리고 그대로 되었다

② God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

• God called the dry land Earth 하나님께서 마른땅을 '땅'이라고 부르셨다
• and the waters 그리고 그 물은
• that were gathered together 그 물은 함께 모였다
• he called Seas 하나님께서 바다라고 부르셨다

5. 문법노트

문법은 직독직해를 하는데 필요한 부분만 간단하게 설명할 예정입니다. 문법에 너무 얽매이면 문장의 의미를 파악하기도 전에 문법적으로 접근하게 되기 때문에 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석하는 것이 어려워집니다. 꼭 알아야 하는 부분만 이해하고 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석이 된다면 그냥 넘어가도 됩니다. 

 

♠ fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed

앞에 포스팅에서 관계대명사를 해석하는 방법을 설명했습니다. [명사 + whom/which + 동사]의 경우 whom은 '그 사람을', which '그것을'이라고 해석한 다음 앞에 나오는 명사를 대신 넣어주면 된다고 했습니다. 이때 whom과 which 앞에 전치사가 올 수 있습니다. 전치사는 whom, which 뒤에 있어야 하는 전치사가 관계대명사 앞으로 이동한 것입니다. 이 경우에도 whom, which의 의미(그 사람을 / 그것을)를 그대로 사용하면서 전사의 의미를 더해주면 됩니다. 

'in which'는 '그것 안에'라고 해석하면 됩니다. 관계대명사는 앞에 나오는 명사를 가리키며 관계대명사절이 명사를 수식하는 내용이지만 직독직해를 위해서는 관계대명사가 있다고 하더라도 순서대로 문장을 읽으면서 해석하는 연습을 하는 것이 중요합니다. 

6. 전체 문장 끊어 읽기

앞에 끊어서 읽으면서 해석한 것을 기억하며 읽어보세요. 영어문장을 읽을 때 끊어진 부분에서 아주 잠깐 쉰다고 생각하면서 읽으면 끊어진 단위대로 해석할 수 있게 됩니다. 

 

9 And God said, / "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered / together into one place, / and let the dry land appear." / And it was so. / 10 God called the dry land Earth, / and the waters / that were gathered together / he called Seas. / And God saw / that it was good. / 11 And God said, / "Let the earth sprout / vegetation, / plants yielding seed, / and fruit trees bearing fruit / in which is their seed, / each according to its kind, / on the earth." / And it was so. / 12 The earth brought forth / vegetation, / plants yielding seed / according to their own kinds, / and trees bearing fruit / in which is their seed, / each according to its kind. / And God saw / that it was good. / 13 And there was evening / and there was morning, / the third day. 

 

7. 전체 문장 다시 읽기

끊어 읽기를 하나하나 생각하는 것이 아니라 전체 내용을 머릿속에 그림을 그리며 읽어보세요. 3-5번 멈추지 않고 읽어볼 것을 권합니다.

8. 자신의 음성으로 녹음하기

영어문장을 읽는 것이 익숙해졌다면 자신의 목소리로 녹음을 한 다음 들으면서 어색한 부분을 점검해 보세요. 이 과정을 통해서 좀 더 자신 있게 영어로 말하는 연습을 할 수 있습니다. 앞에 원어민이 읽어주는 파일과 비교하면서 연습해 보세요.

 

9. 전체문장 반복해서 읽기

자신의 목소리로 녹음해서 원어민 발음과 비교해서 교정을 했다면 이제 마지막으로 무한반복 읽기에 도전하기 바랍니다. 암기한 어휘나 끊어 읽기를 적용하는 것이 아니라 영어문장 자체를 계속 읽으면서 입에서 자연스럽게 나올 수 있게 반복해 보세요.
