2. 영어문장 소리 내서 3번 읽기

뜻을 모르더라도 읽을 수 있다면 일단 3번 읽어보세요. 절대 중간에 끊지 말고 처음부터 끝까지 읽어보세요.

 

Genesis 1:20-23

20 And God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens." 21 So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth." 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

 

3. 어휘 암기하기

어휘를 암기하는 것은 어휘를 저축하는 것과 같습니다. 암기한 어휘를 문장에 적용시키면 오래도록 기억할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 저축한 어휘는 어느 순간 폭발적으로 효과를 나타냅니다. 

• swarm 떼, 큰 무리, 가득 차다
• reature 창조물, 생물
• living 살아 있는
• above ~보다 위에
• expanse 큰 공간, 광활한 공간
• create 창조하다
• move 움직이다
• according to ~에 따라
• kind 종류
• wing 날개, 날개를 달다

• multiply 증가시키다, 늘리다

영어문장 끊어 읽기를 연습합니다. 영어문장과 끊어서 해석한 우리말을 읽으면서 직독직해를 연습하세요.

① And God said, "Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens."

• Let the waters swarm 물은 가득 채워져라

5. 문법노트

문법은 직독직해를 하는데 필요한 부분만 간단하게 설명할 예정입니다. 문법에 너무 얽매이면 문장의 의미를 파악하기도 전에 문법적으로 접근하게 되기 때문에 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석하는 것이 어려워집니다. 꼭 알아야 하는 부분만 이해하고 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석이 된다면 그냥 넘어가도 됩니다. 

 

♠ So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm,

that moves에서 that은 관계대명사로 바로 앞에 나오는 명사 'every living creature'를 가리킵니다. that 대신에 'every living creature'를 넣어서 해석하는 것처럼 생각하면 됩니다. 

God created the great sea creatures and every living creature (that moves)

→ 하나님이 거대한 바다 생물들과 모든 살아 있는 생물을 만들었다 (모든 살아 있는 생물은 움직인다)

→ 하나님이 거대한 바다 생물들과 움직이는 모든 살아 있는 생물을 만들었다

 

'with which the waters swarm'은 문장이 끝난 상태에서 삽입된 부분입니다. 'with which'는 전치사를 동반한 관계대명사로 여기에서 which는 앞에 나오는 'the great sea creatures and every living creature' 전체를 가리킵니다. which가 가리키는 것이 무엇인지 모를 때는 일단 which 뒤에 [주어+동사]가 있는 것을 확인하고 '그것을'이라고 해석하면 됩니다. 이때  전치사 'with'와 함께 연결해서 'with which (그것을 가지고 / 그것으로)'를 해석합니다. 

→ 그것을 가지고 물이 가득 채워진다

→ 그것으로 물을 가득 채운다

→ 거대한 바다 생물과 모든 살아 있는 생물로 물을 가득 채운다

6. 전체 문장 끊어 읽기

앞에 끊어서 읽으면서 해석한 것을 기억하며 읽어보세요. 영어문장을 읽을 때 끊어진 부분에서 아주 잠깐 쉰다고 생각하면서 읽으면 끊어진 단위대로 해석할 수 있게 됩니다. 

 

20 And God said, / "Let the waters swarm / with swarms of living creatures, / and let birds fly / above the earth / across the expanse of the heavens." / 21 So God created / the great sea creatures and every living creature / that moves, / with which the waters swarm, / according to their kinds, / and every winged bird / according to its kind. / And God saw / that it was good. / 22 And God blessed them, / saying, / "Be fruitful and multiply / and fill the waters in the seas, / and let birds multiply / on the earth." / 23 And there was evening / and there was morning, / the fifth day.

 

7. 전체 문장 다시 읽기

끊어 읽기를 하나하나 생각하는 것이 아니라 전체 내용을 머릿속에 그림을 그리며 읽어보세요. 3-5번 멈추지 않고 읽어볼 것을 권합니다.

8. 자신의 음성으로 녹음하기

영어문장을 읽는 것이 익숙해졌다면 자신의 목소리로 녹음을 한 다음 들으면서 어색한 부분을 점검해 보세요. 이 과정을 통해서 좀 더 자신 있게 영어로 말하는 연습을 할 수 있습니다. 앞에 원어민이 읽어주는 파일과 비교하면서 연습해 보세요.

 

9. 전체문장 반복해서 읽기

자신의 목소리로 녹음해서 원어민 발음과 비교해서 교정을 했다면 이제 마지막으로 무한반복 읽기에 도전하기 바랍니다. 암기한 어휘나 끊어 읽기를 적용하는 것이 아니라 영어문장 자체를 계속 읽으면서 입에서 자연스럽게 나올 수 있게 반복해 보세요.
