2. 영어문장 소리 내서 3번 읽기

뜻을 모르더라도 읽을 수 있다면 일단 3번 읽어보세요. 절대 중간에 끊지 말고 처음부터 끝까지 읽어보세요.

 

Genesis 1:28-31

28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth." 29 And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. 

 

3. 어휘 암기하기

어휘를 암기하는 것은 어휘를 저축하는 것과 같습니다. 암기한 어휘를 문장에 적용시키면 오래도록 기억할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 저축한 어휘는 어느 순간 폭발적으로 효과를 나타냅니다. 

• bless 축복하다
• fruitful 열매가 많이 열리는 
• multiply 증가시키다, 늘리다
• fill 채우다
• subdue 정복하다, 복종시키다
• dominion 통치, 지배, 통치권
• behold 바라보다, (감탄사) 보라
• yield 낳다, 산출하다
• seed 씨, 씨앗
• beast 짐승, 들짐승
• creep 기다, 기어다니다
• breath 숨, 호흡

 

4. 직독직해 

영어문장 끊어 읽기를 연습합니다. 영어문장과 끊어서 해석한 우리말을 읽으면서 직독직해를 연습하세요.

① And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

• And God blessed them 그리고 하나님께서 그들을 축복하셨다
• And God said to them 그리고 하나님께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다
• Be fruitful and multiply 자녀를 많이 낳고 숫자가 많아져라
• and fill the earth 땅을 가득 채워라
• and subdue it 그리고 땅을 정복하라
• and have dominion 그리고 다스려라
• over the fish of the sea 바다의 물고기와
• and over the birds of the heavens 하늘의 새와
• and over every living thing 모든 살아 있는 것을
• that moves on the earth 그 것은 땅에서 움직인다

② And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

• yielding seed 씨앗을 맺는
• that is on the face of all the earth 그것(그 식물은)은 모든 땅의 표면에 있다

• You shall have them for food 너는 그것들을 음식으로 먹을 것이다

③ And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. 

• And to every beast of the earth 그리고 땅 위에 있는 모든 들짐승과
• and to every bird of the heavesn 하늘에 있는 모든 새와
• and to everything that creeps on the earth 땅위에 기어다는 모든 것들에게
• everything that has the breath of life 생명의 호흡이 있는 모든 것
• I have given every green plant for food 내가 음식으로 모든 푸른 풀을 준다
• And it was so 그리고 그대로 되었다

④ And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. 

• And God saw everything 그리고 하나님께서 모든 것을 보셨다
• that he had made 그것을 하나님이 만드셨다
• and behold 보라
• it was very good 그것이 아주 좋았다
• And there was evening 그리고 저녁이 되었다
• and there was morning 그리고 아침이 되었다
• the sixth day 여섯째 날

 

5. 문법노트

문법은 직독직해를 하는데 필요한 부분만 간단하게 설명할 예정입니다. 문법에 너무 얽매이면 문장의 의미를 파악하기도 전에 문법적으로 접근하게 되기 때문에 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석하는 것이 어려워집니다. 꼭 알아야 하는 부분만 이해하고 영어문장을 읽으면서 해석이 된다면 그냥 넘어가도 됩니다. 

 

♠ And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food."

give + 목적어(A) + to + 명사(B)

'I have given'에서 give는 'give + 목적어(A) + to + 명사(B)'의 순서로 쓸 수 있고 'B에게 A를 주다'라는 의미가 됩니다. 그런데 이 문장에서는 'to+명사'가 문장의 가장 앞에 있습니다. 이렇게 강조하고 싶은 부분을 문장의 앞에 쓸 수 있습니다. 

 

to every beast of the earth 땅 위에 있는 들짐승에게

and to every bird of the heavens  하늘에 있는 새에게

and to everything that creeps on the earth  땅 위에 기어다니는 모든 것에게 

 

이렇게 '~에게'에 해당하는 내용을 다 나열한 다음에 'everything that has the breath of life'를 쓴 것은 이 모든 것이 '생명이 있어서 숨을 쉬는 것'이라고 정리해서 말하기 위해서입니다. 그렇기 때문에 이 부분에 나오는 everything은 앞에 나온 'besat, bird, everything that creeps'를 모두 말한다고 생각하면 됩니다. 

 

6. 전체 문장 끊어 읽기

앞에 끊어서 읽으면서 해석한 것을 기억하며 읽어보세요. 영어문장을 읽을 때 끊어진 부분에서 아주 잠깐 쉰다고 생각하면서 읽으면 끊어진 단위대로 해석할 수 있게 됩니다. 

 

28 And God blessed them. / And God said to them, / "Be fruitful and multiply / and fill the earth / and subdue it, / and have dominion / over the fish of the sea / and over the birds of the heavens / and over every living thing / that moves on the earth." / 29 And God said, / "Behold, / I have given you every plant / yielding seed / that is on the face of all the earth, / and every tree with seed in its fruit. / You shall have them for food. / 30 And to every beast of the earth / and to every bird of the heavens / and to everything that creeps on the earth, / everything that has the breath of life, / I have given every green plant for food." / And it was so. / 31 And God saw everything / that he had made, / and behold, / it was very good. / And there was evening / and there was morning, / the sixth day. 

 

7. 전체 문장 다시 읽기

끊어 읽기를 하나하나 생각하는 것이 아니라 전체 내용을 머릿속에 그림을 그리며 읽어보세요. 3-5번 멈추지 않고 읽어볼 것을 권합니다.

8. 자신의 음성으로 녹음하기

영어문장을 읽는 것이 익숙해졌다면 자신의 목소리로 녹음을 한 다음 들으면서 어색한 부분을 점검해 보세요. 이 과정을 통해서 좀 더 자신 있게 영어로 말하는 연습을 할 수 있습니다. 앞에 원어민이 읽어주는 파일과 비교하면서 연습해 보세요.

 

9. 전체문장 반복해서 읽기

자신의 목소리로 녹음해서 원어민 발음과 비교해서 교정을 했다면 이제 마지막으로 무한반복 읽기에 도전하기 바랍니다. 암기한 어휘나 끊어 읽기를 적용하는 것이 아니라 영어문장 자체를 계속 읽으면서 입에서 자연스럽게 나올 수 있게 반복해 보세요.
