2. 영어문장 소리 내서 3번 읽기

뜻을 모르더라도 읽을 수 있다면 일단 3번 읽어보세요. 절대 중간에 끊지 말고 처음부터 끝까지 읽어보세요.

 

Matthew 7:1-7

1 Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the meausre you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 6 Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. 

 

3. 어휘 암기하기

어휘를 암기하는 것은 어휘를 저축하는 것과 같습니다. 암기한 어휘를 문장에 적용시키면 오래도록 기억할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 저축한 어휘는 어느 순간 폭발적으로 효과를 나타냅니다. 

• judge 재판하다, 판단하다, 비판하다
• judgment 판단, 판결
  pronounce 선언하다, 선고하다
• measure 측정하다, 판단하다, 평가하다, 측정, 기준
• measure A to B A를 B에 맞추다
• speck 점
• notice 알아차리다, 주의하다
• log 통나무
• own 자기 자신의
• out of ~밖으로
• hypocrite 위선자
• clearly 분명하게
• holy 거룩한
• throw (threw-thrown) 던지다 
• pearl 진주
• lest ~하지 않기 위해서
• trample 짓밟다, 유린하다
• underfoot 발 밑에, 아래에
• attack 공격하다

 

4. 직독직해 

영어문장 끊어 읽기를 연습합니다. 영어문장과 끊어서 해석한 우리말을 읽으면서 직독직해를 연습하세요.

① Judge not, that you be not judged.

• Judge not 비판하지 마라
• that you be not judged 네가 비판을 받지 않기 위해서

→ 비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라

 

♠ 문법노트

Judge not, that you be not judged.

▶ (so) that + 주어 + 조동사 + 동사원형

so that 뒤에 조동사가 있으면 '~하기 위해서'라는 의미의 목적이 되는데 이 문장에서는 조동사가 생략된 것입니다. so that은 so를 생략하고 that만 쓸 수 있습니다. 

 

② For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the meausre you use it will be measured to you. 

• For with the judgment you pronounce 너희가 선언하는 그 비판으로 
• you will be judged 너희가 비판을 받게 될 것이다
• and with the measure you use 너희가 사용하는 그 기준으로 
• it will be measured to you  그 기준이 너희에게 적용될 것이다

→ 너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요 너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 너희가 헤아림을 받을 것이니라 

 

③ Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 

• Why do you see the speck 너는 왜 점을 보느냐
• that is in your brother's eye 너의 형제의 눈 속에 있는 
• but do not notice the log 그러나 통나무는 깨닫지 못하고
• that is in your own eye 너의 눈 속에 있는

→ 어찌하여 형제의 눈 속에 있는 티는 보고 네 눈 속에 있는 들보는 깨닫지 못하느냐

 

④ Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye?

• Or how can you say to your brother 또는 어떻게 너희는 형제에게 말할 수 있느냐
• Let me take the speck out of your eye 내가 너희 눈 속이 있는 점을 빼게 해라
• when there is the log in your own eye 너희 눈 속에는 통나무가 있는데

→ 보라 네 눈 속에 들보가 있는데 어찌하여 형제에게 말하기를 나로 네 눈 속에 있는 티를 빼게 하라 하겠느냐

 

⑤ You hypocite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 

• You hypocite 너희 위선자들아
• first take the log out of your won eye 먼저 너희 눈 속에서 통나무를 빼내라
• and then you will see clearly 그리고 나서 너희는 분명하게 볼 것이다
• to take the speck out of your brother's eye 너희 형제의 눈에서 점을 빼기 위해

→ 외식하는 자여 먼저 네 눈 속에서 들보를 빼어라 그 후에야 밝히 보고 형제의 눈 속에서 티를 빼리라

 

⑥ Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you. 

• Do not give dogs 개에게 주지 마라
• what is holy 거룩한 것을
• and do not throw your pearls 그리고 너희의 진주를 던지지 마라
• before pigs 돼지 앞에
• lest they trample them underfoot 그들이 그들들을 발 아래에 짓밟지 않도록
• and turn to attack you 그리고 너를 공격하기 위해 돌아서지 않도록

→ 거룩한 것을 개에게 주지 말며 너희 진주를 돼 앞에 던지지 말라 그들이 그것을 발로 밟고 돌이켜 너희를 찢어 상하게 할까 염려하라

 

5. 전체 문장 끊어 읽기

앞에 끊어서 읽으면서 해석한 것을 기억하며 읽어보세요. 영어문장을 읽을 때 끊어진 부분에서 아주 잠깐 쉰다고 생각하면서 읽으면 끊어진 단위대로 해석할 수 있게 됩니다.

6. 전체 문장 다시 읽기

끊어 읽기를 하나하나 생각하는 것이 아니라 전체 내용을 머릿속에 그림을 그리며 읽어보세요. 3-5번 멈추지 않고 읽어볼 것을 권합니다.

7. 자신의 음성으로 녹음하기

영어문장을 읽는 것이 익숙해졌다면 자신의 목소리로 녹음을 한 다음 들으면서 어색한 부분을 점검해 보세요. 이 과정을 통해서 좀 더 자신 있게 영어로 말하는 연습을 할 수 있습니다. 앞에 원어민이 읽어주는 파일과 비교하면서 연습해 보세요.

 

8. 전체문장 반복해서 읽기

자신의 목소리로 녹음해서 원어민 발음과 비교해서 교정을 했다면 이제 마지막으로 무한반복 읽기에 도전하기 바랍니다. 암기한 어휘나 끊어 읽기를 적용하는 것이 아니라 영어문장 자체를 계속 읽으면서 입에서 자연스럽게 나올 수 있게 반복해 보세요.
