2. 영어문장 소리 내서 3번 읽기

뜻을 모르더라도 읽을 수 있다면 일단 3번 읽어보세요. 절대 중간에 끊지 말고 처음부터 끝까지 읽어보세요.

 

Matthew 6:1-4

1 Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 2 Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 

 

3. 어휘 암기하기

어휘를 암기하는 것은 어휘를 저축하는 것과 같습니다. 암기한 어휘를 문장에 적용시키면 오래도록 기억할 수 있습니다. 이렇게 저축한 어휘는 어느 순간 폭발적으로 효과를 나타냅니다. 

• beware of ~에 주의하다
• righteousness 의, 정의
• reward 보상, 상을 주다, 보상하다
• heaven 하늘
• thus 따라서
• needy 가난한, 빈곤한
• sound 소리, 소리를 내다
• trumpet 트럼펫, 나팔
• hypocrite 위선자
• synagugue 유대교의 예배당, 회당
• praise 칭찬, 칭찬하다
• receive 받다
• secret 비밀
• in secret 비밀히

 

4. 직독직해 

영어문장 끊어 읽기를 연습합니다. 영어문장과 끊어서 해석한 우리말을 읽으면서 직독직해를 연습하세요.

① Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. 

• Beware of practicing your righteousness 너희 의를 행하는 것을 주의하라
• before other people 다른 사람들 앞에서
• in order to be seen by them 그들에게 보이기 위해서
• for then you will have no reward from your Father 그러면 너희는 아버지에게 상을 받지 못할 것이다
• who is in heaven 하늘에 계신

→ 사람에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 너희 의를 행하지 않도록 주의하라 그리하지 아니하면 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 상을 받지 못하느니라

 

② Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 

• Thus, when you give to the need 그러므로 너희가 가난한 사람들에게 줄 때
• sound no trumpet before you 너희 앞에 나팔을 불지 마라
• as the hypocirtes do 위선자들이 하는 것처럼
• in the synagogues 회당에서
• and in the streets 그리고 거리에서 
• that they may be praised by others 그들은 다른 사람들에게 칭찬을 받기 위해서 (그렇게 한다)
• Truly, I say to you 내가 진실로 말한다
• they have received their reward 그들은 그들의 상을 받았다

♠ 문법노트

when you give to the needy

▶ the+형용사 = 복수명사

형용사 앞에는 원칙적으로 the를 쓸 수 없지만 관용적으로 형용사 앞에 the를 쓰면 [the+형용사]는 복수보통명사를 표현하게 됩니다. 

the rich(부유한) = rich people (부유한 사람들)

the needy (가난한) = needy people (가난한 사람들)

 

→ 그러므로 구제할 때에 외식하는 자가 사람에게서 영광을 받으려고 회당과 거리에서 하는 것 같이 너희 앞에 나팔을 불지 말라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 그들은 자기 상을 이미 받았느니라

 

③ But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

• But when you give to the needy 그러나 너희가 가난한 사람에게 줄 때
• do not let your left hand know 너희의 왼손이 알지 못하게 하라
• what your right hand is doing 너희의 오른손이 하는 것을

→ 너는 구제할 때에 오른손이 하는 것을 왼손이 모르게 하여

 

④ so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 

• so that your giving may be in secret 너희의 구제를 비밀로 하기 위해서
• And your Father who sees in secret 그러면 비밀히 보시는 너희 아버지께서
• will reward you 너희에게 상을 주실 것이다

→ 네 구제함을 은밀하게 하라 은밀한 중에 보시는 너의 아버지께서 갚으시리라

 

♠ 문법노트

Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand

▶ nor + 동사 + 주어

문장의 가장 앞에 부정어(nor)가 오면 주어와 동사가 도치되어

 

5. 전체 문장 끊어 읽기

앞에 끊어서 읽으면서 해석한 것을 기억하며 읽어보세요. 영어문장을 읽을 때 끊어진 부분에서 아주 잠깐 쉰다고 생각하면서 읽으면 끊어진 단위대로 해석할 수 있게 됩니다.

6. 전체 문장 다시 읽기

끊어 읽기를 하나하나 생각하는 것이 아니라 전체 내용을 머릿속에 그림을 그리며 읽어보세요. 3-5번 멈추지 않고 읽어볼 것을 권합니다.

7. 자신의 음성으로 녹음하기

영어문장을 읽는 것이 익숙해졌다면 자신의 목소리로 녹음을 한 다음 들으면서 어색한 부분을 점검해 보세요. 이 과정을 통해서 좀 더 자신 있게 영어로 말하는 연습을 할 수 있습니다. 앞에 원어민이 읽어주는 파일과 비교하면서 연습해 보세요.

 

8. 전체문장 반복해서 읽기

자신의 목소리로 녹음해서 원어민 발음과 비교해서 교정을 했다면 이제 마지막으로 무한반복 읽기에 도전하기 바랍니다. 암기한 어휘나 끊어 읽기를 적용하는 것이 아니라 영어문장 자체를 계속 읽으면서 입에서 자연스럽게 나올 수 있게 반복해 보세요.
